"Big Sur" is a love letter to the way a landscape is introduced. My partner and I took turns driving along the PCH and watching the land fell into the ocean and back again. We stopped many times to climb up mountains or sit in seaside cafes, reading poetry like a score. I wanted to recapture the essence of the way two things (in this case, a poem and a landscape) can interact that normally stand so far apart.
The poem is by Li-Young Lee and it is one of my favorites.
