“Summerland” is about the dichotomy of a moment. How the warmth of the sun and compassion can coexist with the physical pain that nature can inflict. Whether the oil-stained sand, the defensive sting-ray, the ebb and flow of the Pacific, the looming cliffs and the lover beside me, they were all peacefully and perfectly synchronous, in this series of moments: The beach was breezy as i laid out with venom causing my blood to pulse and boil. The cliffs, severe in both surface and angle, rose behind me impossible and ominous. The waves lapped at the shore and the sun illuminated the blackened beach, marred by errant oil from offshore drilling. She sat with me and talked me through my pain for hours..it was a beautiful day.
